Phillip Stoner The Jeweller began as a small family-run business in Yorkshire in 1982. Over the years the company’s reputation for outstanding quality and service has led to many high-profile commissions, awards and the expansion of the business. Phillip Stoner now has multiple boutiques in the heart of Leeds City Centre as well as their own Jewellery Workshop.
In 2008 Phillip Stoner The Jeweller became the responsibility of Jonathan Stoner, who bought the company following his father’s retirement.
From a young age Jonathan was fully immersed in the family business, founded by his father, Phillip.
Guided by his parents, Jonathan was taught customer service skills, how to run a successful business and given the opportunity to train as an Apprentice Goldsmith. Spending 5 years on the bench gave him an extensive working knowledge of the technical aspects of creating and repairing jewellery.
At the age of 21 Jonathan became one the youngest Fellows of the Gemmological Association (F.G.A) in England, later becoming a qualified Gemmologist and Diamond Grader. Knowledge he still uses daily when sourcing Diamonds to ensure the company offers both exceptional quality and value for money.
Throughout his career, Jonathan has seen first-hand the value in exploring the many facets of the Jewellery Industry. As a result he continues to nurture his staff’s creativity and drive, encouraging them to learn, explore and be involved in many aspects of the business.
Family values remain at the heart of the company with long lasting friendships formed with many of our customers.
Jewellers of Excellence are recognised for their outstanding reputations. Family owned and managed for generations; trust, loyalty and prominence are the values that these establishments have earned over their distinguished trading history.
Recognised Jewellers of Excellence, Phillip Stoner, carry the badge of integrity to symbolise the respected values of quality, knowledge, responsibility and, above all, trust.
The National Association of Jewellers inspires consumer confidence through a Code of Practice, setting the highest standards of professionalism, honesty and ethical business practices for their members. Their Coat of Arms is a mark of quality that Phillip Stoner proudly displays.
All precious metal jewellery offered by an Assay Assured Jewellery Retailer carries the legally-required independent hallmark, verifying the precious metal content. Phillip Stoner is also part of a scheme of sampling and testing by Assay Assured to ensure that jewellery exempt by weight from hallmarking is also of the claimed standard – a protection over and above legal requirements.
In addition, all products are accurately described stating their precious metal content and Assay Assured jewellery retailers agree not to carry counterfeit branded jewellery on their website.
As a proud Yorkshireman and avid Cricket fan, Managing Director Jonathan Stoner continues to nurture the strong relationship with Yorkshire County Cricket Club that was first established by his father, Phillip, decades ago.
Official Jeweller to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Phillip Stoner has handcrafted many bespoke items for the club. These include Retirement Trophies, Man of the Match Cufflinks, President’s Medals, Player of the Year Trophies and the Dickie Bird Clock, which can still be seen in Headingley Stadium’s West Stand.
UPDATE 03.11.21
We have been appalled to hear about the racism Azeem Rafiq faced during his time at Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the inaction that subsequently followed. We firmly believe that racism should not be tolerated in any form. Our partnership with YCCC will not be renewed unless fundamental changes are made within the club.
Members of Phillip Stoner’s team have been part of Yorkshire Businesswoman since 2022. The monthly networking events bring together women in business, celebrating their successes, encouraging and educating each other.
